Business:
Secretary rotation confirmation (Bri / Megan)
Present: David Rooney, Michael Penniman, Brad Ferrier, Robert Butler, Bri Swope, Kristina Gordon, Natalie Gustin, Abbie Steuhm, Riel Sturchio, Rita Soenksen, Chuy Renteria
Approval of Minutes for previous meeting (David / Michael): Brad Ferrier motions to approve, Robert seconds. Minutes approved.
Treasury Report (Brad): January Live Captioning fee paid $594.90 remaining funds.

- New CDA Liaison: Jesus “Chuy” Renteria (they/them or he/him) Assistant Director, Strategic Initiatives, Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Announcements / Updates:
- Live Captioning proposal – funding secured (David, Chuy): David and Michael proposed funding for live captioning, Chuy submitted and Dr Tovar approved and the Division of DEI will be funding live captioning from here on.
- Social media campaign update / first subjects (Elizabeth, Hallie)
- Bill Sachter story telling exhibit: Kristina Gordon and the disabilities studies course will be partnering to compile information and the history to showcase
- UISDAA - sharing updates? (Michael)
- Brad Ferrier: thank you to Abbie and UISSDA and Bri and Inclusive Recreation in partnership with the IDEAS council to review accessibility at Hardin and Main Libraries
- Natalie: cultural center, Natalie met with UISG to discuss funding and what they are hoping to have
- Hallie: Thursday March 2: Deaf Blind Poet, essayist, historian and translator will be honored at the Krause Essay Prize award ceremony on Thursday, March 2 at 7:30pm at the UI Old Capitol Senate Chambers, where he will present his essay.
- The UI Nonfiction Writing Program: writer John Lee Clark has won the 2022 Krause Essay Prize for his essay ‘Against Access’ which appeared in Mc Sweeney’s

- CDA Spring Social (SMA or Wild Bill’s) May 26 at Stanley Art Museum or Wild Bill’s -- (or support of Judy visit—social during Judy Heumann visit – Michael, Kristina and Michael will work on planning social event: The Spring Classic is March 11 in the Coralville area and includes basketball, basketball skills, cheerleading, gymnastics and powerlifting.

- CDA Meeting Rundown – draft agenda thru May 2023
- April meeting: Elections for new officers including co-presidents
- Discussion: how does CDA approach requests for research / participants
- What opportunities and how do we address requests?
- When we get those requests, do we want to share with CDA? PWDs are a protected class so being sure to respect confidentiality.
- Thoughts/Discussion on topic: For example: requests from 2 groups wanting to survey students as part of a larger survey
- UI to Embark on 10-Year Facilities Master Plan – what’s CDA’s role?
